Josh was born in Toronto, Ontario on March 27th, 1973 in Mount Sinai hospital, where he was dubbed Moonbaby by one of his father's friends as a result of the odd conelike shape of his head. Josh's headshape returned to normal but remained completely hairless until his family moved north to Sudbury in 1975.

Despite violin and piano lessons at an early age, Josh's interest in music did'nt materialize until he picked up the saxophone in the eighth grade, attempting to emulate his older friend Matt, whom he idolized for his coolness.

He got his first gig that year, playing with his dixieland combo for the old folks at the local Extendicare. Josh puttered around playing jazz with his fellow students through high school and joined "Vic and the Meatkings", his first "real" band in 1991.

The group was a party band, playing highly danceable covers by Elvis, Sly and the Family Stone, The Specials, Toots and the Maytals etc. After his introduction to the two-tone sound and the origins of ska music, Josh was hooked.

After the Meatkings broke up in 1995, Josh moved back to Toronto and Joined local wierdo Cadillac Bill's surf/rockabilly group, The Creeping bent, as well as sitting in on a fairly regular basis with Skaface and The Skanksters.

After a particularly depressing winter tour of Canada with Cadillac Bill at the end of '95, Josh moved back to Sudbury and started his own ska/swing band, The Smokers. The group performed regularly in Sudbury, Toronto and Montreal, carving their own niche in the ever-swelling Canadian ska scene. At the same time, Josh performed extensively with a variety of groups from the Sudbury area. However, after independently producing a full-length CD, The Smokers seemed to have hit a wall and, disillusioned, Josh folded the group and moved to Montreal in June of 1999.

At that exact time, The Kingpins were looking for a new alto sax player and Josh was asked to join. Josh began touring with the group and soon became a full fledged member.

On the side, he also found time to perform with other local acts as The Dears, The Datsons, the Stomp All-Stars aa well as Winnipeg ska band JFK and the Conspirators The rest, as they say, is history.
